Yo, Is This Hotdish?

Yo, ask me if something is hotdish and I'll tell you, don'cha know. If you must know, yes, I am Minnesotan. (And I'm pretty sure making a midwestern version of Yo, Is This Racist? is indeed racist.)

Anonymous asked: Can any hotdish have ice cream in it? It seems like it's time to evolve the definition?

Well now, that’s interesting. It might be hard to keep ice cream from melting in a hot dish, but add some pecans and fudge and I suppose you’ll have yourself a cold hotdish there, you bet! You could also try putting ice cream on your regular hotdish but be sure not to tell your neighbors if you do that—people will talk.

Anonymous asked: tater tots, green beans, cream of celery soup, and ground beef?

I don’t think anything could be more of a hotdish! That’s in the Hotdish Hall of Fame (Oklee, MN), don’cha know!

thelistenerd asked: rye whiskey, sweet vermouth, bitters, twist of lemon, maraschino cherry, simple syrup?

That’s obviously not hotdish but you bet it’s an acceptable way to wash your hotdish down, especially if you make your way to a supper club right after some hotdish.

Anonymous asked: Hamburger Helper?

Your mother is very disappointed in you, now, here, you know.

Anonymous asked: ore-ida crispy crowns, ground beef, frozen broccoli, tomato, cream of celery soup, cheddar cheese

Yo, you’re on track for a pretty traditional hotdish there. Not sure why it needs broccoli and tomatoes, though, ya know?

convincingindie asked: Macaroni noodles, spam, cream of chicken soup, and cheese.

That’s a hotdish, fer sure! The Spam and cream of chicken combination sounds… interesting.

Anonymous asked: Beans, salsa, cheese, tortilla chips

I think that there’s taco salad, yah?

edkohler asked: Egg noodles. Cream of Celery Soup. Sriracha sauce.

That needs protein, don’cha know. Not hotdish.

Anonymous asked: Shrimp, rice, chicken broth and crumpled potato chips?

You betcha, that’s Cajun hotdish.
